democrazia e informazione: prove di dibattito

Attenzione: post mooooooolto lungo

Io e CJ (al secolo Calamity Jane) non ci conosciamo; eppure, seguendo le dinamiche sociali imposte dalle nuove tecnologie, ci scambiamo deliziose lettere d’amore virtuali sui temi della comunicazione e dei mass media… vizi privati e pubbliche virtù. Essendo CJ una chiara intelligenza tra quelle incontrate fino ad oggi in questa città di fannulloni e fankazzisti che si chiama Tocqueville, è sempre stimolante confrontarmi con lei… soprattutto quando non la capisco. Questo post risponde ad un post di CJ che rispondeva ad un mio commento che commentava un altro post di CJ… sui mass media.
Tutto è nato dal fatto che Scalfarotto ha chiuso il suo blog. La reazione di qualsiasi abitante di questo pianeta, che non fosse la mamma o il fidanzato di Scalfarotto, avrebbe portato ad una normale conclusione: “e chissenefrega!”; CJ, invece, ne ha preso spunto per un’analisi generale sul sistema dei media e sul rapporto tra uso, gestione dei mezzi d’informazione e responsabilità; un’analisi acuta come suo solito ma che su alcuni passaggi non ho capito.
Cosa dice CJ? “La linea editoriale è una questione di responsabilità, oltre che di potere”. E fin qui nulla da obiettare. Ma poi continua: “Se non si partecipa di questa responsabilità, non si può pretendere alcuna voce in capitolo nella scelta dell'indirizzo da tenere”…. e qui la mia adesione al calamitypensiero comincia a vacillare. Il mio tracollo viene subito dopo quando CJ afferma che per giudicare “sommariamente”(???) chi gestisce i media: “occorrerebbe un esame di coscienza: in primo luogo, per domandarsi se si sia personalmente intitolati a dare lezioni di democrazia a chi viene tacciato di mancato rispetto delle sue regole; e poi per realizzare quale sia la complessità del sistema che regge lo spettacolo che si ha davanti agli occhi, e interrogarsi seriamente se si sia mai in grado di portarne il peso”. Questo passaggio, per me un po’ ostico, CJ lo ripete nel secondo post: “gli argomenti sono due: uno morale (chi critica una scelta editoriale senza essere disposto a portare il peso di questa scelta, non è degno di prenderne la responsabilità), e uno "tecnico" (la maggior parte delle persone che criticano, oltre a non essere disposti alla responsabilità, non sarebbero atti a prenderla, perché non conoscono il mestiere)”.
Ora, io sono un semplice anarca e mi muovo a fatica dentro concetti astratti; quindi provo a riportare il ragionamento di CJ in un paradosso… fedele all’insegnamento di Zenone, uno che di paradossi se ne intendeva: decido di prendere un aereo da Roma a Tocqueville perché ho un appuntamento con Calamity Jane; quell’imbecille del pilota, siccome ha conosciuto una hostess austriaca, sceglie di virare su Vienna e lanciare volantini dannunziani per corteggiarla ed in più, prima di atterrare, si mette a fare 2 giri della morte, 3 picchiate, 4 giravolte così giusto per divertirsi un po’; ora, una volta sceso e risistemato il mio stomaco, ho diritto o no a prendere a calci nel sedere il pilota, pur non essendo mai disposto a prendermi la responsabilità di pilotare quell’aereo, anche perché non ho un brevetto di volo? Va bene, poi ci sono le regole del mercato (non viaggerò più con quella compagnia), l’etica professionale, la struttura aziendale a cui il pilota dovrà rispondere… ma intanto a me, l’appuntamento perso con CJ chi me lo riprende?
Nella società moderna, l’informazione e la conoscenza sono beni primari ed il diritto ad un libero accesso alla conoscenza, è diritto fondamentale, sancito da carte e cartine. Ora mi domando: come si fa a garantire che questo accesso sia il meno condizionato possibile?
CJ dice: "Il mio concetto è che chiunque partecipi della libertà di gestire il mezzo, lo deve fare in maniera non disgiunta dalla responsabilità della gestione". Sono assolutamente d’accordo, ma quando questo non avviene che si fa? E’ evidente che non ci si appella al popolo, ci mancherebbe, ma anche il richiamo al mercato (non comprerò più quel giornale, non guarderò più quella rete!) o l’uso delle finestre limitate (ora telefono al direttore e m’incazzo!) sono francamente illusioni. Sia chiaro, non credo ci siano soluzioni all’orizzonte: evidenzio una criticità del sistema informativo che cmq incide nelle regole della vita e della politica.
Perché se è vero che il sistema delle comunicazioni sulle persone è più sfaccettato e più articolato di quanto ci si possa aspettare è anche vero che la percezione che si ha è che a volte questo sistema incide in maniera meno sfaccettata di quanto ci si possa aspettare.
Nel 1994 un Presidente del Consiglio italiano fu sbattuto sulla prima pagina del più importante quotidiano nazionale, alla vigilia di un importante vertice internazionale che doveva presiedere, al solo scopo di intaccarne il prestigio ed indebolirne il governo che rappresentava. Se non ci fosse stata quella operazione nella quale l’informazione si è trasformata in soggetto politico, sarebbe mai caduto il governo di quel Presidente del Consiglio? O meglio, quell’atto barbarico di uso della libertà di stampa quanto ha influito sul percorso democratico di questo paese? Credo abbastanza. Per questo continuo a dire che ho la sensazione che l’approccio di CJ, impeccabile teoricamente e molto da “addetta ai lavori” lasci scoperto il problema di quanto la libera informazione incida quando per esempio, s'inventa le armi che sciolgono i corpi e lasciano intatti i vestiti. Lo so che se mi legge qualcuno del FNSI mi accusa di voler mettere il bavaglio alla stampa.
Al contrario le nuove tecnologie, modificano il limite della responsabilità, costruendo strumenti che mettono in relazione idee e persone. L’esperienza di questa città dei liberi (che in fondo è uno straordinario canale di contro-informazione) ne è una prova.
Scrive CJ: “sono personalmente convinta che gli uomini siano dotati di senso critico”. Io vado addirittura oltre e penso che ne siano dotate anche le donne. Ma non è questo il punto. Il problema è che il senso critico va educato e guidato con la scelta. In realtà le mie osservazioni non pongono critiche a ciò che dice CJ… al contrario partono proprio da ciò che lei afferma. Pongo però un problema che forse non è molto risolvibile per ora, e che comunque il concetto del “senso critico” individuale non è sufficiente a risolvere. Un problema aperto che ed irrisolto, che è quello dell’informazione come potere e responsabilità; problema che inizia ad incidere su alcuni meccanismi della democrazia attuale, molto più che in passato e pericolosamente.
Ultimo paradosso e poi smetto:
Mettiamo il caso (ma solo il caso) che in un grande paese europeo si stiano per svolgere le elezioni politiche e la coalizione al governo risulti dai sondaggi in vantaggio di 5-6 punti in %. Mettiamo il caso (ma è pura immaginazione) che pochi giorni prima delle elezioni avviene un devastante attentato terroristico di matrice islamica nella capitale che causa 200 morti. Mettiamo il caso (ripeto, non c’è nessun aggancio con la realtà!) che scatti una campagna stampa deliziosamente devastante che punta fin dall’inizio a dimostrare che il governo in carica ha mentito depistando le indagini, cercando di strumentalizzare il tragico evento, mentre contemporaneamente una canea di sciacalli dell’opposizione danzano sui morti ancora caldi sfruttando il condizionamento psicologico collettivo dato dal tragico evento. Mettiamo il caso che si svolgano le elezioni e che il risultato previsto venga ribaltato e la coalizione che doveva vincere… perde.
Ora mettiamo sempre il caso (ma così per un paradosso) che anni dopo si scopra che, contrariamente a ciò che la stampa ha imbastito, le indagini erano state condotte in maniera corretta, che l’esecutivo allora in carica si era comportato in maniera impeccabile, che buona parte dell’informazione era stata pilotata ad arte e che il corso di quella democrazia è stato alterato artificialmente. I danni di una democrazia alterata chi li paga? Il senso critico?...

Difficile trarre conclusioni univoche perchè troppo complessa e piena di sfumature la materia del contendere.
